One of the best wines in Portugal, it’s perfect with steaks, roast meats, cheese, and all Italian food. Balanced flavor of fruits and tannins it will get even better if you manage to keep it on a proper basement. Several years are exceptional like 1999 or 2005, but it’s always a good wine no matter the year. The Cabeça de Burro  (stands for “donkey head”), it’s a very fine red and Douro wine of soft fruits and tannins, that you want to treasure for a special occasion. The Bairrada representative of the list, it’s one of the most respected wines in Portugal. Its strong body, with a sensitive hint of blackberry on the way in, and the terminal forest flavour on the way out, make this wine perfect for impress your neighbours or your community. Specially if you’re having pork, mainly grilled pork. This “brother John” as it calls in Portuguese, it’s truly as spiritual experience, and it’s easy to imagine a convent where monk’s drink this blood of God. Its temperature should be 16º Celsius, although it’s suitable for environment temperature no longer then 20º. Try to use this wine in public events, but be advises that the public must be a wine public, and must have a strong meal during the occasion. Mexican food for example it’s suitable for this wine, as also north European specials like deer or wild pork. Trying it it’s crucial if you planning a rustic meal- don’t lose the opportunity to meet this strong wine.

Tinto da Talha is in fact the lovers choise. But not every lovers- both must be completely in love with each other, and both must have a passion for wine. This heavy bodied wine, it’s like a wild horse in the countryside, with no limits, just the horizon and the sunset. Very dark red, strongly structured, it’s a massive experience with a red grilled meat (a bit raw would be perfect) and lasagne. The complete opposite of light and vegetarian meals, this “castle” must be served at 19º Celsius. In fact, this personality it’s enhanced by its name, witch origin comes from the roman tradition that is still use in the south of Portugal of making wine in a terracotta amphora.
